Quite so, using the 220Ω resistor will do no harm at all, and I'd be surprised if there was any discernable difference between that and the 270Ω resistor.

I don't have a solution for (not) breaking springs other than carrying spares, but I have found that buying Rotax springs from a Karting shop is rather cheaper. Same spring, less than half the price. ...

I'm afraid I don't have a trailer but you can move it in a 7.5 tonne tail lift lorry.
