Has anyone ceramic coated their exhaust system? Jet Hot www.jet-hot.com is
suppose to reduce temperatures about 200 F. Apparently is widely used among
high performance racing. Could this help reduce cowl temps without causing
other isues?

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I had my exhaust pipes ceramic coated before taking the aircraft into
service, since I had bought the 912S for my classic mono, and knowing, that
the 912S runs much hotter than the 912. I don't know what the difference
would have been , but have had no problems in 350 hrs , some of the flying
in very hot conditions in Arizona. I would recommend it.

Hi Jerry,

I've had my exhaust pipes ceramic coated before taking the aircraft into
service. My Europa is a Classic with a 912S and has 350 hrs on it . I could
not tell if it made a difference, but things get pretty hot under my cowl,
with everything being so tight. It was not very expensive, as I recall
I would recommend it.

Hello Peter

"I had my exhaust pipes ceramic coated before taking the aircraft into
service"

Who did the coating?

What type and what color?

Thx.
Ron Parigoris

I was planning on using:
http://www.performancecoatings.com/
For 914 exhaust and also their thermal dissipating/protective coating for
aluminium intercooler and water radiator

Does anybody know if ceramic coating increases the durability of the pipes?
In my experience, they seem to last for only about 450 hours. (Classic
exhaust)
Regards,
William

We had the exhaust pipes coated in the US (regular Rotax 914 pipes).

Nice black coating, looks great when new. After 120 hours, the look is
still correct, but some scales are peeling off in some area.
200 F seems somewhat optimistic to me.
Considering physics, it sure should improve temperatures a bit, but the
pipes still run dull red when running up at night, and I would not rely
on it to significantly reduce cowl temps.
FWIW,

Regards,
Gilles

Peter,
You are talking about the pipes that are coated. And the muffler? Can it be
done as well?

Did they coat the inside of pipes as well? If so is there any possibility of
coating coming off on inside and causing issue with turbo? Thanks
Jerry

Gottfried,
Thank you for the quick answer. Tomorrow I will expedite the whole exhaust
system to England.
