We have a decent N-Number reserved, however, yesterday I went online and noticed that there is a really short, really cool, N-Number that we would rather have. When I did a search by name, the person who owns it is parked on something like 20 N-Numbers, all just being reserved, none actually on an airplane. It looks to me like this guy is running a side business of gobbling up N-Numbers and then selling them.

If he has the N-Number I want, how much is an N-Number worth? Does anybody else have experience with this?

I realize this is somewhat subjective, but the whole concept intrigues me.

Thanks

A friend of mine was contacted by a corporation and
paid $3000.00 USD for his one digit two letter N
number. That is the only instance I personally know
of.

Yes, but did you then look-up the address???

That’s the address for NIKE (www.nike.com)!
Internet rumor was someone sold them the N-number for a handsome profit.

Getting somewhat off subject here, but wasn't that the same G-V that was on national live TV some months ago with a suspected landing gear problem but eventually landed safely?

I wonder if this the NIKE Gulfstream that had the landing gear stick last year. I heard that the pilot went up to around 40,000ft. and rolled it over to get the main gear to shake lose. It was all over our local news one morning while they tried to burned off a full load of fuel and solve the problem.

The errant aircraft was another Gulfstream in their fleet , but not N1KE. It was in Appleton on service.

Just as a point of reference, I offered the individual several hundred for the N-Number and he wrote back no thanks. He was looking for the many many multiple of of thousands. He indicated that he'd just sold another also for the many multiples of thousands and it wasn't as desirable for the one I was after. Oh well, I still like N475R.

Interestingly though, heard some good stories as I was looking around for reference points. I heard many things about the N1KE - lifetime supply of shoes and new paint in addition to the cash. There's also N1CE. Or the person named Nigel with N16EL.

Back to building.

Just back from Sun N Fun and saw an N number N600FY and he had tweaked the six and the ohs to read GOOFY. The taxi way had a 3" rise from the dirt parking to the asphalt taxiway. As he approached the taxiway he began his turn too early and caught the right landing gear on the vertical rise spinning the plane
90 degrees to the right, parallel with the taxi way and his right wheel dropped into the dirt. Instead of shutting down and let others help he added lots of power and did a right 360 with the right brake locked, bouncing the plane about and looking totally uncontrollable. Sometimes it all comes together.
