Not sure how much interest there is in this.
A couple of years ago, I contacted an engineering in LA to look at the cracking problem.  He built a finite-element model of the area.  Since I was so busy with other things, that project was shelved.  

During one of my many conversations with the DER regarding my cowling, I brought up the cracking problem.  There is a structural engineer there who wanted to look at it.  Bottom line is:  He took all the measurements, lots of pictures, and the FE model from the first guy, and we started redesigning the supports (braces, if you will).  I now have an approved process with completely new braces that are wider and shaped more like the bulkhead (original horizontal support) at the forward edge of the ELT tray.  The other major change is, my process uses metal to metal bonding epoxy instead of fuel tank sealant to bond the braces in place.  

If there is any interest, the more braces I have made at one time, the cheaper.  Right now the braces run about $600/set each for a run of 4 sets.  If I can sell a dozen sets ?????

Oh, one other thing, the DER will only approve the installation if I do it.  After 4, it will be enough data for an STC.  The STC, however, won't be a blanket STC for just anyone to install.  The DER is reluctant to let anyone install the braces: the metal to metal bonding process is quite sensitive the preparation.

I was thinking of doing a similar analysis. I work in an aircraft structures
group. However, I really didn't have the time. Is there any word on the types
of loads that would cause the cracking? We talked about it at work, and the
consensus seem to be a torsional load about the longitudinal axis (twisting of
the fuselage). Shaking during engine shutdown would do this, but flying in
turbulence or near stall would do this too. Also heavy use of the rudder.
