Thanks for taking the time to go through the site, Taylor. I am rather
swamped at the moment and not even the projections that I made last month
(year!!!) have panned out as I had hoped. But I am pecking away at the site
as and when I can. I received a lot of specs for most of the Commanders from
Barry Collman, which are the ones that I am working on now. As soon as they
have been posted, I will let you all know and then you can let fly with the
critique. It would be welcomed.
Have a wonderful 2008.
Thanks
Nico

Nico-
If you want- I can give you a write up describing the
rehab/overhaul/reinvention of N414C... along with some photographs.
No rush- I'm about to head in to the training center to get my 747-400 type-
so I'll be busy for a few weeks- but if you want content- I'll try to
support you with a contribution!

A few WEEKS? What are you, a wimp? I hear them Boeing thingys pretty
much fly themselves! Nothing a couple of hours of dual can't take care
of....
Good luck and have fun. How is N414C treating you? Have you put some
hours on it since I saw you last?
Cheers,
/John

John-
Oh- it will be a couple hours of dual. Only on this one, "a couple hours
of dual" is translated to: "A couple of hours flying the sim around with a
dual engine failure on the same side of the airplane."
Engine out stuff has always been a strong point for me- not sure why.
Probably cuz I'm not to sure how to fly- but I am sure how not to crash.
Unfortunately I got to practice the engine out stuff again a few weeks ago
with N414C. Seems when they installed the fuel bladders some crap got into
the right side fuel system and clogged the pump and the fuel filter. Engine
was running lean as hell and clearly wasn't sustainable, so I shut it down
since it wasn't clear exactly what was causing the problem. I was pretty
close to home base- so I figured it was better to feather it and get rid of
the distraction of trying to keep it running.
My sixth E/O landing in a multi engine airplane. (Four at the airline and
two on my own) I think my insurance company should give me a discount for
having proven that I am good at preventing them from having a claim!!!!
My local shop has done a full system inspection and found that all of the
crap seemed to have wound up in the fuel scupper at the bottom of the center
tank during the bladder remove/reinstall. Apparently 90% of it got sucked
up by the right side fuel pump- as there was non left in the scupper, the
right boost pump was about 50% plugged with it- and the right side fuel
screen was totally full.
Left side had some- but not much...
So when the pump comes back from a precautionary overhaul- I'll finally be
able to get to trying out all those avionics. The 747-400 is a dinosaur
when compared to the avionics in 414C!
Was good meeting you in person John. We'll do it again one of these days
and talk a bit more about your flying ambitions!

Robert,
You are going to find that "one out" on the -400 is a non-event --- doesn't even change the landing minima in Cat 111, if your rules are the same as the aeroplane certification. Hand flown on 3, it is a non-event, I even got to do one for real on the old Hong Kong IGS.
Two out on one side, still far more straightforward than the Classic, and beats the hell out of a 707 on two.
Have fun on the course, it a great aeroplane --- but gets real interesting with a failure of all four generators, google Qantas Bangkok.
Cheers,
Bill H

David,
Hard on the heels of pumping nitrogen into the crew/pax oxygen tanks, and a string of domestic incidents, somebody need to pull their sox up.
By the way, the only time there is a U after Q in QANTAS is US phone book.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton
