Hi All,

Within the last few weeks, what was reported as an "early Commander" (presumably a "Bathtub" model) was noted at Van Nuys in poor/incomplete condition and stripped to bare metal.
It was next to a Beech 18 in the same condition.

Does anyone know the identity of the Commander and what is likely to happen to it?

The guy wondered if they were perhaps linked to a repair or ground training outfit.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Barry

eh, Sorry. Do you have any idea more or less where it would be located? I you don't, I could just scan the airport from space.

Here it is: Google Earth

34 12'57.79N
118 29'9.68W

Its nosed into the hanger next to what looks like but not a Beech 18.

Hi Bert,

Sorry, I thought your message was for Nico to see where it was!

Taken a look now and got it.
But, that is a Beech 18, isn't it?

Best regards,
Barry

It might be a Beech 18, I thought it looked more like a Lockheed Lodestar.

Hi Bert,

Well, if Nico can take a look at them both, hopefully they can be positively identified.

Best Regards,
Barry

Notice it has a wing span bigger than the Twin Commander.Bert may be right. Lodestar or a Hudson. It may be a tri gear since the shadow on the tail is the same as on the wing.
The tail is not sitting on the ground.

Barry.

After the way that I have been dropping the ball on checking out N2765B at the school, you probably will not believe this, but if you wish I can fly over to Van Nuys and check out the Commander and what ever the other aircraft is. N680RR should have the annual finished next week, so I could go after then.

Regards,

Moe

Hi Moe,

Hey! No problem!!
I'm sure you've quite enough on your plate right now without flying around half of California.

Nevertheless, it's very kind of you to offer.
I was hoping 'we' might have somebody local to take a look if they're passing by.

Very Best Regards,
Barry

That's Matt Jackson's hangar (actually it's Howard Keck). The other planes are an A-26 and a Navion.
