I plan to attend this April and would like info on places to stay or if anyone is looking for a room-mate. Also any ideas on lodging for show including camping onsite. Please contact me with any information. I am a fairly new esqual owner since October 2007. Thanks, Allan

Allan,

In the past (before I came to work for Arion) I stayed at the Best Western in Baseball City http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.do?iata=00158210 . The rate was reasonable (senior and military discounts) and the rooms were clean. The hotel is right on I-4 and about a 35 minute drive into Sun n Fun.

In 2006 a friend of mine rented a house using Vacation Rentals by Owner http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/florida/central-disney-orlando. We stayed in a great house with pool and Jacuzzi for about $950.00 for the week. The house slept 8 or 9 people. If you stayed more than 3 nights it beat the hotel price. Again it was a 35 minute drive but well worth it.

There are other options but these are two that I have personally used since 2001.

Hope this helps.

Mark

It's almost impossible to get lodging anywhere near
Lakeland. Try orlando- The remodeled howard johnson on
the strip about 5 miles from Disney was only 39 bucks
2 years ago and had just been completely remodeled
with everything new- a real deal for the money.

I camped at the Lakeland, FL airport last year. It's less than 5
miles from the main venue, a shuttle bus was available to take us to
Sun N Fun, and the grass runway is 3500' long.

Just to prevent possible confusion to someone that has not flown to Sun-N-Fun before, I think Hugh must be talking about South Lakeland airport (X49) which is about 5 miles south of Lakeland Airport (LAL) where Sun-N-Fun is held. There is both "store bought" airplane and "show plane" camping at LAL during the show. Homebuilt aircraft camping is actually a little south of the main Vintage aircraft camping area. There is no camping in the regular homebuilt aircraft parking area because that area is inside the "dead" line during the airshows.

I goofed. Actually homebuilt aircraft camping at LAL is a little EAST of the main Vintage camping area - to the east of runway 05/23 that is closed during the fly-in. Sorry about the momentary loss of "situational awareness", I have been "spin testing" my new coffee cup and the caffeine has not kicked in yet this morning.

Buz is entirely correct. Sorry about the confusing post!
