Ain't going to cheap or pretty
I ran into a friend from Lockwood today at Sun and Fun during
vendor setup day. Since the info is not "official" but came from
someone I'd consider authoritative, I thought I'd relay it to those who
care here.
Basically, the best idea might be to start with a new airframe. Field
upgrading an engine would be a big job and probably not officially
supported. It was suggested that even hanging a whole new engine
without a whole new FWF kit would be a big job.
The good news is that the iS engine should cost less than a 914,
somewhere in the $24-25k range

OK,
Today it's official. No real path to upgrade:
912 iS has new block, new oil pump, new alternator, new ECU, new
computerized digital display panel, new cylinder heads, new air flow from
starboard. Lots more.
