I recently a chance to fly a L-29 with modified wing tips. They are a little more than twice the width of the stock tips. It took about a day to install both tips. While flying I saw a plus 200 to 400 foot in the climb rate (increase) and 2 knot decrease in the dirty stall configuration and the 29 was very stable and smooth though out all flight phases, but the aileron roll was slower. The 29 also seems to want to stay in landing ground effect longer while in the roll-out, landing with speed brakes becomes more a requirement than an option.
What do you think of this kind of mod?

Interesting wing tips pix's....
old were sort of fat and blunt as the photo shows, the new tips were wide, almost 3 times the width, and tappered to reduce drag and a smaller vortex signature.

Let me know what you all think about these tips...

How much are they? They look good. For the right price I would like a pair. Who do I call?
However,
It's all relative in the L29. Short of putting a viper engine in u aren't going to get much
more out of that little jet.
Just fly and have fun.

For less than 10 hours of flying...

L29 $12,000.00 Pricing includes wing tips, drag reduction modifications and factory installation. Wing tip lights are included.

L39 $25,000.00 Pricing includes wing tips - main and horizontal stabilizer. Wing tip lights are included. Installation not included. Please call for list of authorized installers.

But given the the current 2012 value of the 29, it may be at the end of one AC budget.

I think you are right about the budget. At $12000, that's half the price of the L29.
A foam mold, fiber glass or composite, it's a done deal. Like I said, drag reduction in the L29 is kind of pointless. Can't afford to fly that far anyway.
They look nice but oh we'll. Thank you for the info.
