Does anyone have a part number for the fuel filter block/body/canister assembly (not the element) that’s attached to the M701-500 engine? Haven’t been able to find in the parts books and I don’t have a parts book for M701.

Thanks

No, Aero Vodochody is trying to find a replacement fuel filter for the original L-29 M701 filter but they don't have much documentation anymore. Thought possibly the same filter assy may have been used on some other aircraft with an element that is still in production. Seems the assy was supplied by Walter but the company that merged with Walter doesn't have the documentation anymore.

No, they don't. Said everything they had was in a museum. Because of the scarcity of original fuel filters, they are trying to determine if some other aircraft has something that could be used to replace the old filter. Have a company that will make new filters but can't find a company that will reverse engineer the old filter.

There is an endless supply of the L29 fuel filters available in Europe.  The cost is about $75 usd each plus shipping.   Much cheaper if someone is willing to buy 50 or more at a time.    Probably in the $45 to $50 each range

Price an American aircraft fuel filter . Im sure they are just as much. To buy these for auto filter prices, it needs to be volume purchase. There is no reason to reverse engineer since the filters are around.   Put together a 50 or more order and I will be glad to bring them back in my luggage.

The issue is that nobody is going to go over there and get them to make $100 and drive 3 or 4 hours to the location and the shipping also is expensive.  Answer is volume purchase.  Just my opinion

OK everyone who wants or needs filters! I'll take the first 10 if we can get an order for 50 or more. Who's next? Everybody says they need filters. Here's the chance to get some.

How often do they need changing Anthony? I got a box of cartridges a few years back so figure they will last me a while? But without operating my aircraft yet I have no idea how often they get changed, hours limited, date limited or on condition?

Does anyone have a part number for the fuel filter block/body/canister assembly (not the element) that’s attached to the M701-500 engine? Haven’t been able to find in the parts books and I don’t have a parts book for M701.

Thanks

I change mine every 100 hours or once a year, whichever comes first.

I'll check my -17 tomorrow night, I should really already know this...

At $5+ per gal. Not much flying. Every other annual.

Just from my flying experience in the L-29, I agree with Bill. Every other annual or sooner if element is dirty or has debris in it.

Changing the  fuel filter has a lot to do with how you are operating the aircraft.  I change mine every annual inspection, regardless of the condition.

Because of the high FBO fuel costs, a lot of pilots are trucking fuel from one airport to another or are buying  kerosene.  Even if the correct micron filter is being used in conjunction with pumping this into the jet, possible contamination becomes higher.   I recall one fatal accident a few years ago that involved plugged fuel filter in the eastern USA.
If you are using Kerosene without the Prist, the fuel can start to gel and grow “gunk” in it after sitting for long periods of time.   Either way, why take the chance.

At $5-7 per gallon for the Jet A,  replacing the fuel filter once a year is cheap insurance. Just my  opinion .    Even if you had to pay $75 a piece, for a once a year expense for safety , it’s not a big thing.
