Van's just called to say my engine is shipping momentarily from Lycoming. Does anyone have one sitting in a crate at their place who could tell me the dimensions of the box it will arrive in? Need to know whether it will fit in the back of my SUV, or whether I need to rent a truck like I did to pick up the finish kit at the freight dock.

Thanks,
-Dan Masys

Dan saw a IO-540 at our local FBO recently seems to me it was about a 4x4x2.5 sitting on a standard wooden pallet...I did not measure it just eyeballing it...

I can measure my crate at home, but it was basically the
size of a pallet, and about 35-40" tall. I have a
Ford Aerostar minivan that I hauled it home from OSH in.
4 guys to load. Unloaded with an engine hoist. I don't
know what kind of SUV it is, but my guess is it would
fit as long as the height works out, and it's not a
mini SUV, like how small some of the later model
S-10 sized blazers and bravadas are. Any suburban, or
minivan would probably be fine. Didn't Van's provide
any crate dimensions? Just buy a buddy a 6-pack in
return for using his pickup and you'd have no problems.
