Jon,
The Bing carburettors used on the 912/4 series engines were developed
originally for the BMW R65 motorcycle (Mid '70's era)
Overhaul kits for these can be obtained from vintage BMW motorcycle
specialists such as Motorworks for a far more attractive price than
you'll find at any Rotax dealer

Hi All,
I am wondering if it is possible to purchase a few O-Rings for a Rotax Carb, without buying the complete and expensive overhaul kit.
I have a couple that are missing and/or cracked.
Using Fig 73-14 of the latest issue Heavy Maintenance Manual as a guide, I am looking for 2 x O-Rings that dampen the needle (3 and 1 x O-Ring for the Idle Mixture Screw (37).
Thanks
Jon

This old link no longer works; would the motorworks part be FUA35001J?
Bing carb for BMW R45 Pre 1981? Skydrive are out of stock of carb refurb kits
My 340hr/6 year old 912ULS missed a fraction of a beat a couple of times on Sat after running smoothly for over an hour, and spaced by maybe 20 minutes. Warm air, high presume no cloud and 3000ft in steady cruise, fuel filtered, filter changed recently, service 40hrs ago, fuel esso supreme. Wondered if it could be air pocket?
I'll change plugs, check plug sockets, carbs, filter, check fuel drain, clean air filter.
Suspect carb/fuel flow debris issue.

Graeme,
I suggest you do not fix anything. On a Rotax engine, the symptom you described is typical of carb ice. If the atmospherics conditions were not favoring icing, then the cause of icing was water in the fuel.
Regards
Remi

Thanks Remi, handy to know that. I'll check the other carb bowl and collect some fuel from the tank drains and just keep my eye on it a while before any drastic measures.
About 18 hours ago I changed the water, fuel and oil pipes; I hadn't really thought through that after that I would need another shake down with several cowl off checks and filter changes to make sure it had all settled down; I don't want to do drastic things and have to start that again.
Just to have to hand I bought a set of bing carb gaskets, rings, diaphrams 32mm rebuild kit from motobins 16 11 1 254 774. part no 60020 about 50gbp
