I have 2 C90's and I notice that the VC button seems to really do nothing at
all. It si supposed to change the sound from warm, deep, spacial, ex..., and
I notice nothing. Keep in mind, I have no external DSP hooked up, so this
should work. Do others seem to make a real difference?

Can't really comment here. I've mostly always driven XDP-4000x's with my C90. My recollection of testing the VC on the bench was pretty under whelming though. Didn't really seem to do much, as you've indicated. I want to say that it by passes the internal Treble/Bass controls too, so if you've got these turned up, you might notice more or less impact.
