Ok,
I managed to get one of these from Rob, now for the next part of the exercise – I need to paint/mark the gears on the inside, so I can see when they are in the correct position to cut/lessen the oil flow into the engine. So when I look through the glass to line up the gears, I will need something easy to see..
The question – what highly visible ( white or day glo orange) paint would stick and stay? Any suggestions?

Don’t want it to be the same color as my parachutes… J
I have had one suggestion of using the paint that you use on bolts to show they have not moved, but that is a dark red.. not sure it would show up like I would like..
It just showed up..

In all seriousness, the easiest to see in a dark environment would be white. Well with oil a dingey white.

David,Did you remove the electric starter? Or will you modify another bracket?

My TW is not a ‘sissy’ TW .. J hehe , I do not have an electric starter, so it goes over that plate, where your starter is..

Hey -I never use it in fact it went TU and I left it inop for almost 2 years until I had to hand prop - out of air, away from home, no high pressure air or nitrogen.

Need to team you up with Tim Williams.. he can find air anywhere on the planet.. J comes with flying without a air compressor for ~ a year now.. hehe
Handy to have the elec starter I am sure.. I will take the sight glass for mine though

On a serious note, how is he getting his gear up and down? Using the emergency air?

No, just top off, and you can make 1 or 2 flights easy with no additional air. Remember , our TW's have hyd. breaks.. I had to live without air a few months while I got a new shear coupling.. Not a big deal really..

And some of the 55 guys take off the compressor and all associated
plumbing to save weight. Then they top off every 2-3 starts.

Dave,
I did not see that you ever got an answer to your original question regarding a paint suitable for marking the gears to be viewed through the sight glass.
Two products come to mind for this application. First is an opaque metal stain similar to layout fluid produced by DYKEM www.dykem.com and advertised to be resistant in transmission oil up to 300 degf. It is available in small quantity and a variety of colors.
Second are fiber tip paint markers produced by DYKEM and SKM Industries www.skmproducts.com that are designed for marking metal and other non-porous surfaces. These are titanium dioxide based paints with a xylene carrier. The SKM products include a variety of neon colors. I can't vouch for these paints in engine lube oil, but they last for years in turbine gear boxes running 24/7 in synthetic oil at 190 degf. These markers are available from MSC Industrial Supply Co. www.mscdirect.com or 800-645-7270 for less than $5.00 each.
