I am installing the left wing locker hinge. My hinge is taller (or thicker) than what appears on the drawing. With shims installed the hinge will be approx 2 mm above the wing surfice. Will this be a airflow problem that I should be worried about?

Burbby,
The hinge should be flush with or below the airfoil surfaces because you
will end up loosing lift or airspeed or both
with an obstruction that breaks the flow over the wing. Laminar it's
not, but you should make whatever correction
to get it to rotate the lid down without leaving anything above the wing
save the edge of the baggage compartment lid.

Burbey
I'm sure you've thought of this but just in case-I had the same problem befor I turned the hinge over.

If you install the wing locker hinge as per the drawing (using shims) the rolled part of the hinge will project about 0.065 " above the skin surface. If you turn it the hinge over you will have a slot in the wing.
Echoing Burbby's question, did any of you do anything different or do you just live with the portruding hinge?

Hi Tim,
For my money, the amount of hinge protruding into the airstream from
the locker hinge is about the same as all the rivet heads. I did
mine as close to the plans as I could.

I originally had my wing hinge 'up'. Flew like that for many hours. I flipped it over (rounded portion down). The lockers won't open as far but it looks better.
Did I gain performance? Can't say I noticed it, but I did several things, and I didn't get any slower!
