Hi:
I just got my renewal Libility Insurance,,went up $100....a year...Falcon...
I am looking for something cheapper.... Any Ideas? ( I do not want to consider "AVEMCO' after what they did to me, is a horrible
story,,, someday I will post it... You will not believe it. I did everything right, I thought,) be careful with them..
So who else is left with reasonable rates, just Liability... I know If one adds the Hull part is out of reach for me..
Thanks
Bert

Bottom line, don't do anything until you call:
Mike Travers
Travers & Associates
800-888-9859
and the rest of the story: below is a copy and paste from an email I wrote early last year after completing my plane. It was a nightmare/funny experience so I'll share it again....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soapbox on so don't read if you don't want to hear my rants but I think in hindsight this was quite an eyeopener and funny.
I got "binded" yesterday.
Hull Value $50,000.00
Deductibles Not in Motion: $100.00 In Motion: $100.00
Liability Limits
$1,000,000.00 Combined Single Limit Bodily Injury and Property Damage Subject To
$100,000.00 Each Passenger
Medical Payments $1,000.00 Each Person
Frank must complete 8 solo hours prior to passengers.
TOTAL ANNUAL PREMIUM $1,824.00
No, I didn't find any CFI with their own airplane around here that had enough teaching hours in the airplane for the insurance companyiesto recognize the time. Quite a catch 22. In fact I was told some pretty down right dumb things by underwriters via brokers like
1) you won't be covered for the first 10 hours and it will cost you over $4K. I think that one was Avemco ( the direct underwriter)
2) you must get 10 dual hours in the same make and model (despite the fact that no one gives instruction out of an RV8 or 8A for that matter and no matter how differently you try to explain that to these supposedly market savvy professionals they didn't get it)
3) you must get someone else to fly off the first 10 hours,
4) you must get 5 hours of dual in your own plane (what part of phase one, must fly alone, etc are these folks not getting?)
5) no one is allowed to fly with you for the first 8 hours (yes, again, I stated clearly more than once that the airplane hasn't flown yet and I was trying to get the insurance crap lined up...)
Oh yeah, AIG supposedly passed on me completely according to one broker stating they took a major hit with the Gulf Coast storms last year and were going into ultra conservative mode. Holy Cow, what an industry....
I could go on but I'm trying to put the horror behind me.
My suggestion is keep calling different brokers until you find one that tells you what you can do to get your premium down below $2K. I had different brokers quote me premiums from the same underwriters that varied by 100% !
In the end Travers & Assoc out of St Louis got me a deal with AIG for less than half of what another broker wanted to charge me via AIG and without the extra hours of fight instruction. Well, come to think of it, even they said that initially they wanted some sort of checkout in MY PLANE then I reminded them that the plane was in phase1 and I already had a log book entry stating that I had 5.6 hours of "official" RV transition training and an endorsement in the log book stating I was good to go WRT RVs! I even said I'd copy the friggin' thing and fax it to whoever wanted to see it at AIG and let them call Jan Bussell. Jesus. So a phone call back and forth between the broker and AIG resulted in the 8 hours solo before any passengers. Uh, OK. I think I'll give them 25 hours just to be safe?

Bert, I used to have AVEMCO but, they kept raising my rates despite the fact I kept adding hours until I finally couldn't stand it anymore. I had hull and Liability. I now am insure through SkySmith using AIG and the rates fell to 1/2 of AVEMCO for the same coverage. Have not (fortunately) had a claim against them - so don't how they are in that department.
