24ZM, eh?....sounds familiar....I think I got a ride in that plane when
it was here in Michigan, just before the new owner took it out to
California. Deke flew it in here and Duane (new owner) left it in my
hangar for a month before taking it west...nice job Danny....REAL nice.

My instructor tells me that if Oshkosh was a month later, I'd be going
on my own, but he instructs me part-time, and flies for American
Airlines, so not able to give me the finishing steps for the Sport
Pilot Certificate in the next two weeks...what a shame...but I'll find
a way to get it up there, if I have to let someone else take
it....nahhhhh!

Back in '98 I flew N24ZM from south Florida to Oshkosh while still a
student pilot.  What I did was find a local instructor who had always
wanted to go but never had the chance. The instuctor wasn't tail wheel
qualified so we got him checked out so we were legal. It was a great
trip and I got to do a bit of instructing as well because I had to
coach him through most of his landings:) I logged about 25 hrs of
cross country dual.

No doubt he is correct. I flew (alone) for a lot of years before I took my check ride, but once I had successfully made my Xcountry solo flight I could go where I pleased. Never had a radio ,so that wasn't a problem. Sectionals and a compass don't quit working.
But things change a lot in 40 years. Listen to your instructor, take your check ride, and make it alone next year. Best wishes.      Larry Huntley

Thanks, Lloyd, I'll keep that in mind.

Lynn,
Another option if the experimental camping is full is to fly in as an
ultralight and land in the ultralight field and camp there. There
always seems to be plenty of room there for planes and camping. I flew
my fox in there for several years that way, no radio communication
needed, just need to call ahead to verify the field is open. You also
get to fly in staying under 300 AGL, a real blast and the grass strip
is plenty big enough for a fox.

Deke,

I'm planning to be there, but not sure when just yet.  I think it would be great for a gaggle of Fox builders to get together sort of like we did a few years ago.  Let's stay in touch until AV starts.

Dave: I’m sure it is the same transducer as I believe the additional cost was basically related to testing and documentation required to receive certification.

Cliff: The Mizer isn’t marketed by Navman it’s marketed by an Australian company and sold through Aircraft Spruce at USD$325!

I was cleaning the face of mine when the MIZER decal started to deteriorate. I lifted the decal and found “NAVMAN” printed on the display. – Expensive decal!!

The only other thing getting  the Marine one  is that you get about 30 feet of wire attached to transducer.  But hey the term aviation may only relate to the extra insurance costs  and you might get less wire . I think my installation only used about 3 feet of wire.

Same as alot of products - if you tell them it for aviation it will cost you more and might not be any differance in product.

That is the same display that I have. The part that worries me is the
transducer. The hose barbs are a "not so heavy duty" plastic. That's my only
gripe with it. It actually works very well.

       Hi Deke,

Riding up with some buddies this year to Oshkosh. Will be staying at camp Scholler as always. Going to spend some time at Johns setup to see him again and see how things are going. Hope I can catch up with you somewhere this year--after 8 or 9 in a row missed the last 2. I am having withdrawals and need to get back! The red fox is flying fine with the lycoming, 50.5 hours now and everything is signed off with the first inspection completed also. Not taking her this year though. Plane is fine but the low time pilot still needs work!    Cell-----316-648-7649.

Was wondering if there would be many Kitfoxers driving/flying/walking/etc. into AirVenture this year.  I plan on driving and being there for the week, but not the weekend, staying at Camp Scholler.  It would be nice meet up with some of you great people.  You know, talk Kitfox, tell lies, share some refreshments, that sort of stuff.  Perhaps we could also make a point to meet up somewhere during the week, maybe Acey Ducey?
Anybody interested?

I go to Oshkosh every year and stay at my son's place just 20 minutes from EAA. This year I will be on site every day and hope to meet some of you Kitfoxers. I will usually be walking around in an orange Dornier DO-24 flight suit. weather permitting, and will definately be at the best party of the week, the Seaplane Pilots Corn Roast, for which I have an extra ticket! Hope to make contact with some of you. BTW, I will have a car on site if anybody needs a ride into town. Pete, KF-Classic IV
