After all this time I finally found someone that normally says no to everything and he said you do it this way and they can’t turn it down. We will see.

Mo, I think I may get John Towner’s battery system approved on a field approval for my “A” model. If it goes through I will let you know how we did it.

Adam,

If you have any problems while in Northern New Mexico call me at (310) 350-4594. I am in Farmington (FMN or N19) and have a truck and trailer with lots of tools and parts.

Best of luck.

Thanks for having me, Tylor. And that St John airfield DID have fuel for 4.85/Gal. Couldn't believe it! Cheapest so far on entire trip. Think the card worked? Of course not. Had to get the courtesy into "town" and get money at the ATM. I'm going to have to keep a stash of cash hidden in the plane for emergencies, me thinks....

Thanks for the tip, John. I'll look into that AX card.

I carried no less then $5,000.00 on me when traveling with the 500B, after I
ditched that plane in the Pacific, as I was wheeled in from the Coast Guard
medevac helicopter to the emergency room, the local law enforcement was
questioning me as to why I had that money on me, (he was sure it was from or
for a drug deal), he did not understand that aircraft owners have money
(read credit card) problems when in remote areas, he was a back woods
neophyte to boot.

Couldn't not tell you my tale, flying my 500B out of Florida, whipped out the $100's and got the stink eye from the FBO, coincidently the governor of florida shows up in his King Air .......i couldn't keep my mouth shut and made the statement that my money is suspect, when the politicians are spending other peoples money like a drunk in a bar. Things litened up then. They must have been Republicans.

HI ADAM....Glad you made it home!! It seems the mechanic in Chitown had a change of heart. He seemed like a reasonable guy, just did not understand reciprocating engines, especially geriatric old geared ones!! Glad it had a (semi) happy ending. PS If you make payments on you credit cards, they may work better Wink jb

John , Do you happen to know why the 680 was not certified for an auto-pilot . I was thinking about having one installed in my 680 and was told by Auto-Pilot Central folks that the 680 was not certified .Just curious as to why, however the 680-E is . Thanks Gil

Thanks Moe!

So far my only troubles have been with money! Credit card and debit cards not accepted at various pit stops as they "exceed daily limit". Funny that - it's my own money on the debit card, but I can't access it! Banks. Eventually had to get into town to get some cash to pay re-fueler. All extremely annoying and time consuming. Tomorrow is a new day and with new daily limits. Let's hope I can get enough fuel to get back.

Moral of story? One can never have too many credit cards. When one goes down, move on to the next.

Hi Gil,

I’m probably (read certainly) not qualified to answer this but there are several STC’s for installation of an autopilot in a 680.
For example:
SA13WE – Bendix M-4
SA520SW – Bendix M-4C
SA4-1382 – Bendix L-2C
SA662WE – Brittain Industries Autopilot & Hi-Lo sensitivity adaptor BI-400 with NAV-1 nav coupler
SA4-1442 – Collins AP-102

Or, do you mean later examples of autopilots?

Best Regards,
Barry

Folks,
I would have thought that a field approval 337 would be the way to go, in the absence of an existing STC, if you want to fit an STec, for example.
I know that at lest one Commander in AU has had an STec fitted under our equivalent of a 337.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Hi Gil,

I'm probably (read certainly) not qualified to answer this but there are
several STC's for installation of an autopilot in a 680.

For example:

SA13WE - Bendix M-4

SA520SW - Bendix M-4C

SA4-1382 - Bendix L-2C

SA662WE - Brittain Industries Autopilot & Hi-Lo sensitivity adaptor
BI-400
with NAV-1 nav coupler

SA4-1442 - Collins AP-102

Or, do you mean later examples of autopilots?

Best Regards,

Barry

John , Do you happen to know why the 680 was not certified for an
auto-pilot
. I was thinking about having one installed in my 680 and was told by
Auto-Pilot Central folks that the 680 was not certified .Just curious as
to
why, however the 680-E is . Thanks Gil

Hello Adam "aka stratobee"

My e-mail to the chat page does not always work but I hope this gets

to you. I am an old Commander guy that loves Commanders and I have
read
many of your postings. I have much compassion and respect for what you
have
been through and I wish I could help but I have followed many of the
postings and in my opinion you have received some excellent advice from
the
TCFG gear engine guys. As for your credit card deli- ma I can certainly
relate. Just my 2 cents worth, get a AX card and if you communicate
with AX
they will work with you (we currently pay for all of our fuel nightly
with
our AX card and they have been very good to work with). Take care and
if
there is anything I can help you with you e-mail me direct for sometimes
my
e-mails do not go through (old age setting in). Oh! and if you want any
Bob
Hoover videos I can send you some, from 1996-2000 I got to ferry Hoov's
aircraft between air show and of course that was much fun) Take care,
fly

Thanks Moe!

So far my only troubles have been with money! Credit card and debit
cards
not accepted at various pit stops as they "exceed daily limit". Funny
that -
it's my own money on the debit card, but I can't access it! Banks.
Eventually had to get into town to get some cash to pay re-fueler. All
extremely annoying and time consuming. Tomorrow is a new day and with
new
daily limits. Let's hope I can get enough fuel to get back.

Moral of story? One can never have too many credit cards. When one goes
down, move on to the next.
