Hello
I have removed a SAF CAV 180 drain valve from one of my wing tanks and wished to replace it with a Curtis 1550 lockable unit which is 1/8 NPT thread. The left tank was updated like this and I was told the 1/8 thread went straight in and sealed but I can't get the right side to bite - I realise the thread on the SAF is 3/8 24tpi -3 which is parallel and a similar diameter but different thread pitch. I'm unclear if the SAF valve removed from the other side was in fact a 1/8 NPT version as these are available and I'm unlucky to have a rogue thread on the other side. I tried replacing the SAF 180 but it went in nicely but keeps spinning as the thread bottoms out - it would seem it has gone past the threads or something is loose !
Just wondering what you guys have - anything other than 1/8NPT ?
Also I have the caps with the Zeus type slotted screw to close/lock - are there any items that will retro fit with a tab or something easier than using a screwdriver to grip the wire ?
Thanks

It looks like the skin is about 1/4 inch, 6mm thick with very shallow threads - I ran a tap into it and got a 1/8NPT seal now. There seemed to be a sandwich of rubber or composite between the alu skins - are the wing tanks not supposed to have a boss with a proper threaded hole ? I can't find anything in the manual but I'm flying again now !
