Here is another way of fitting the Jabiru into the standard Kitfox round
cowl. It's a bit hard to see from the fotos but he has used a lexan disc to
close off the large inlet area and has cut out holes in the disc and cowl to
bring the air into the Jabiru ducts.

It's quite a nice installation. I flew this plane last week and as you say
it doesn't have the high rate of climb of a 912 but it sure sounds beautiful
and cruises easily at 100mph. I also noticed the almost complete lack of
vibration. Nice setup.

Yes, I have seen several modifications of the round cowl, to fit a
Jabiru, Gary. Some are quite well done. But, IMHO, as I needed the two
inlets so typical to air-cooled boxer engines, I felt it was time to go
away from the "radial engine" look. I think I could have made it nicer
if I had placed the oil cooler somewhere else. But a well functioning
engine was my prime concern and a vertical oil cooler, placed in front
of the engine, right behind a relatively small opening is what is the
most effective, I think. And in that respect, I am very pleased, the
entire engine compartment works very well as a "cooling chamber."

Cheers,
Michel
