Hi Jim,
The engine appears to be suffering from crankcase fretting. It only has about 470 hours on it. There was a range of engines produced back in 2005-2006 that had issues with the crankcase or the assembly process that created conditions that allowed the crankcase to move enough to created the fretting issue. My engine has those symptoms. The engine is very hard to turn over after flight and started leaking oil from the heads of crankcase bolts. I'm in the process of tearing the engine apart to verify the issue. There is a thread about it on Rotax-Owner.com, http://www.rotax-owner.com/rotax-forum/3-4-stroke-technical-questions/2271-rotax-912-uls-fretted-crankcase . I have contacted Rotax distributors here in the US and the only resolution they offer is they will fix it for a mere $9,000. Rotax corporate won't even talk to you. They did redesign the case apparently and change torque settings after 2006.
I'll know more once I get the case split. My only hold up right now is pulling the mag flywheel.
Barry

Hey Barry,

Just wondering why you're tearing into the engine. Is it TBO already?
