List,
Last Saturday I posted a 911 explaining that I had mis-cut my left wing Z-spar (HDS) as if it were for the right wing. Of course there was no saving the spar, but Dave’s Cheap Sheet Metal Bending Brake bailed me out. I picked up the parts on Monday afternoon, built most of the brake, and finished the brake after the obligatory July 4th BBQ.
I took me less than 15 minutes to re-bend the spar. Success the first time out of the gate, too! I’m not much of a scrounger, so I paid premium for the parts, and, believe me, it was considerably more that $75. Still, according to Bill Naumuk, I about broke even if I had ordered that part from ZAC. Now the brake gets cheaper with every bend!
To date I have used ZAC supplied kits for the tail and wings, but have decided to finish the rest as a scratch build. Dave’s brake got me over a huge mental hurdle as I have little room for more tools, and less money.
BTW – anyone who needs a right wing HDS rear spar can have it for the shipping (from N. Calif).
