Hi Everybody,

I'm new here. Just sold my Cherokee 180 and am in the market for either a IV-1200 or a RANS S6. So I thought I might find some help on the IV-1200.

2 questions for starters:

1) Is the IV a relatively tame taildragger? I haven't flown TD in 4 years. Before that had 60 hours in a Fisher Classic and 140 hours in Hatz biplane.

2) What kind of cruise should I expect with a 80 or 100hp Rotax. (I know that varies a lot, just curious about general ranges).

Thanks!

Brad

Brad,
I see you have no answers yet. I have a Series 5/7 with Grove gear, so I
probably don't qualify to answer you. But If I toss something out, someone
will write to tell me I am wrong.

I had about 40 hours in a Champ. And then no flying for 6 years with a move
and building. I had a heck of a time getting my feet back into it. I could
not believe I had gotten so rusty. The Fox was much more responsive than
the Champ. Now, I can't believe that I had any trouble at all. There is so
much control available that I feel the plane can do anything. After 120
hours, I am still trying to become as competent as the plane. I feel it is
a real pussy cat to land.

One issue is the alignment of the main gear. You want neutral or slight toe
out. But get current!

Randy

PS Normal cruise for a IV with 80 hp is about 220 mph. Wink

Don said;

Well Don, since I don't have a IV, it was just a wild guess. Wasn't I
pretty close? Nobody else has given Brad any answers, so I guess my answer
is still the best.

Randy,
I think 220 MPH is a bit high for any model Kitfox.

I don't know Don, extrapolating downward from my 100 HP Model IV, 220
mph seems about right. Smile

Good point and when the wings come off you can probably get a little more.
