I recently installed the leaf type muffler clamps to cure the
exhaust leaks at the joints in my 75 tiger. They worked quite
well, with no noticable traces of soot in the cowl. This was
diagnosed as the nose bowl paint was blistering due to the
excessive heat in the cowl, especially around the muffler. As
the summer heat comes to Savannah, I find that I still can't
keep my hand in contact with the lower portion of the nose bowl
and fwd portion of the cowl. My neighbors 172 (we live in a
fly-in community) was also too hot to keep a hand on after a
brief run out to the runway and back last evening. Is this
normal, and do others have the same condition? The fiberglass
itself seems to take the heat ok, but I sure would like to put
some type of heat shield on the inside. My muffler had no leaks
on the last annual using pressure and soap.

By the way, Gary, if you still need drawings developed for the
cowling, I have access and thousands of hours of 3d time using
Catia. I can do full solid modeling and drawings if it is still neccessary.

The drawings are just about finished.

We are curing the lower cowling at 200 degrees to help with the fiberglass taking the heat.   We may also use fiberfrax (sp?) for the temp
