We would appreciate input from anyone on the following issues

The following questions are relevant to the small Lycomings, i.e., 0235, 0290, 0320. 0360 normally aspirated engines.

  Please express; Benefits / Pro's / Con's

We're not righting a book or doing scientific research, just trying to learn, take good care of our investment, and afford to fly in these times of increasing costs; your input will be greatly appreciated.

1- Cleaning inside the cylinders with walnut shell grit, while still installed on the engine, per S.I. No. 1418.

2- Use of the Champion REM37BY spark plugs for better lead scavenging while using 100 LL, per S.I. No. 1042T.

3- Using " APPROVED ", Alcor TCP in the 100 LL fuel.

4- Using MMO in the 100 LL fuel. ( Yes we're aware that it isn't "APPROVED" and none of you are doing this. )

5- Using auto fuel, per EAA or Peterson STC's.
A- Which do you like best, and why?
B- What " Brands " of fuel do you like best & why?
C- How do you deal with Alcohol blends?
D- Do "YOU " feel alcohol is detrimental to these engines?
E- Are you "leaning" as you should when using 100 LL?

6- Using MMO in auto fuel. ( Yes we know this isn't " APPROVED " either, etc..)

  7- Operating at higher RPM's during start-up/warm-up, taxing and shut-down, per S.L. No. L192B.

8- Aggressively leaning mixture while using 100 LL per S.I. 1094D

I know there is a lot of us out here that are interested in hearing comments to these questions; and there are many of you that are VERY KNOWLEDGABLE in these issues; PLEASE share your experiences with us here on the "LIST", or "OFF LINE" if you prefer, and help the rest of us to be able to fly a little longer and affordable.
