There is nothing wrong with your Kolb. The three-point angle of attack
on a Kolb with standard gear legs. is well below the Critical(stall)
angle of attack, by design. Lengthen the main gear legs enough and you
 can stall it in three-point.

Have you bought a hydraulic press, yet? If you haven't done that, or
borrowed one, you obviously haven't bent enough gear legs. Keep trying. Have
you bent the roll over hoop? Seriously, you've got to put your whole self
into the moment, fly it down right to stall, and use one notch of flaps to
really fine point on it. And then, WHAM. Your main gear looks like it was
designed by Roger Rabbit over in Toon Town.
I have 18" dia. nerf tires, full swivel tailwheel on a 4130 leg, sleeved,
no less, and I almost always fly at aft C.G. and I couldn't get a consistent
three point out of mine, either.
Then Travis talked good sense into me and I stopped trying. Now I'm finding
it's all about energy management, as the shuttle drivers put it. I can wheel
it on at 50 mph and roll her out or I can bleed off the speed as gently as
possible to get a landing at about 42 or so in a three point attitude. I
don't believe the wing is stalled at that point, but I no longer get that
annoying ground slam when it does and that's all I really care about.

 Rick:

I usually land with full flaps, on the mkIII. That puts the aircraft
into an attitude that is not quite as nose high as half flaps or no
 flaps at all.

My mkIII sits somewhat higher in the nose, but the 8" Maule Tundra
Tail Wheel canceled some of that out, unfortunately.

Should get a chance to practice landings in the Factory FSII this
week. We'll see if I can still land a Kolb that is in the normal
 landing gear configuration.

Plan to get out of hauck's holler in the morning and sleep on Labhart
 Field tomorrow night.

 See you all there,

 Subject: New Member Panel Question

 Hello All

My name is Jeff Nelson and I have recently acquired a Kolb Firestar KXP.
It did not take me long to realize I needed to do some updates and one
was the panel. It was not in good shape so I am going to rebuild it.
My question is this. What do you all have in your panels and what
configuration is it? Are there any pictures that are available? right
 now I have an altimeter 3 1/8", Airspeed 3 1/8", CHT 2", EGT 2", Tach
2", and fuel quantity 2" I can configure these so I can also get my
handheld radio mounted on the panel. Are there any other units that
might combine some of these gauges? I hope to get this done so I can
fly it yet this fall but I have a few other things that need attention
as well. I will also be licensing this in LSA this year.

 Thank for your time
 Jeff Nelson

If you can get all that in a KXP panel, my hats off to you. I am faced
with the same thing having destroyed my old pod. The new one from TNK
seems to be a bit different and more streamlined. (read smaller) I was
faced with buying two new gages so that I could have two EGT and CHT
measurements so I opted to get a EIS from Grand Rapids Tech. Then all
you need is fuel gages, altimeter, air speed and compass. They do have a
unit that has an altimeter built in. What convinced me was the fact that
they have a remote feature that you can remotely wire the functions for
your stick? or any where else you want it. I just went out and took a
picture, since that is what I have been working on, and I notice that it
is set in the panel upside down. I have been trying to tame the wiring
mess that is involved in this and just secured the connectors and shoved
it into the panel. The harness has 12 feet of wires so there is plenty
to get to anywhere you want. I dealt direct with the factory, ( the gal
that answers the phone is sharp and will save you a lot of trouble as
well as money) and was much happier and confident that I would be
  getting what I needed.
