				Has anyone but me seen the Nov 2006 Air And Space mag? They have an article  "Aircraft Identification, in which the author states "The FAA plans to  make ADS-B systems mandatory for General Aviation and Transport airplanes by  2014." Earlier in the article, they point out that " The development of ADS-B is  continuing, with implementation coming in stages over the next decade as radars  gradually are decommissioned. For older aircraft, the cost of conversion to  ADS-B would be prohibitive." ADS-B is a system that will replace current radar  -aircraft will broadcast ID, altitude, azimuth and range without interrogation  from a ground facility. Other A/C will pick up and display this info. Neat! But  lots of $$$$. So does that leave the most of us with a useless IFR rating and a  plane we can only fly in the boonies?
