They are fasten with plate nuts, and for the QB fuse guys be careful the four bolts to de side skin, the plans call for AN3 but mine came with AN 4 wich make more sense if you install the 3 remove and install 4

Hey Rob,
I have just done the same thing and agree with you completely about the bolts, very difficult! I have a question for you: The forward brace of the LG bracket shows fastening to the floor by 2 AN3-5A bolts but the picture and description gives no clue as to what and how you fasten it (see P. 29-21). I have gone through the plan book and can find no reference or even instructions for drilling. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I took my Columbus Day and removed the gear brackets, fwd floor pans (only a few rivets in each to hold them) and the covers for the control sticks that screws to the front of the seat area. Then I vacuumed, cleaned, primed the areas, laid the Super SoundProofing with Sticky Stuff, and then reinstalled everything. Total time spent was all day, 12 hours. Hardest part was getting the bolts out of the holes that go through the spar areas. There’s not a whole lot of room for fingers and tools, so you just have to work at it. Backing the bolts out was VERY tedious. I took a few pics and will try to post some.
Oh, another thing. If you are shorted a few snap bushings and don’t want to have to pay Van’s or someone else shipping on some $.07 bushings, do what I did – on the bushing itself is the name of the company, HEYCO, in Tom’s River, NJ. After realizing that my local supplier didn’t carry them and the minimum order was in the 1000’s of parts, I went to the website, www.heyco.com. Heyco has a sampling service where you can type in the part number that you need (up to 6 I think) and tell them how many you would like to sample. Not to be greedy, I asked for 6 of two different sizes and they arrived in the mail today. I also asked for a catalog to check their other goodies….

I have the slow build fuse and found mounting the gear legs a pain in the butt. I can see how the guys in the Phillipines are buggering them up. The other area that a lot of people have trouble with is around the F-1001B and WD-1002 weldment at the fwd fuse (not enough hole edge clearance). I wonder how the QBs look in that area??
cheers,
Ron
