Hello Kolb Folks,
Here are two picture of a tail light on a Kolb rudder. This is an untested design and I cannot recommend this application at this time. I talked to a couple of builder who had unsatisfactory experience with their designs, so using that advise I tried to do something different, that hopefully will not adversely affect the performance of the rudder. Please share your thoughts!
Some may wonder why I even want a tail light. Alaska has a lot of twilight in the summer. Many time I have spotted aircraft ahead of us, in the late evening, that had all kind of other safe lighting, but the first thing that shows up in the distance is just the little tail light.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Nick Cassara

Here is one that is not good: mine.

Weight at the rear of the rudder causes flutter which is why I have the big counterweight. If I had it to do over again I would make the counterweight much smaller and then put the light on the counterweight in front of the hinge line facing aft.
