Reviewing some Vspeed and noticed some flying are quoting Vspeeds that are different from the CJ6 pilot note manual. Anyone have thoughts as why this is?
Commonly used Speeds:
Vs0 = 59 Kts
Vs1 = 61 Kts
Vfe = 108 Kts
Vlo = 130 Kts
CJ manual notes:
Vs0 = 49 kts
Vs1 = 60 kts
Vfe = 99 kts
Vlo = 106 kts
Confused
Thanks
Larry

Which CJ6 manual are you quoting here?

Unless the Chinese have produced a new Pilot Training Manual that I am not
aware of (which is entirely possible) there are no specific numbers given
for Gear and Flap operation.
Instead they have traditionally used a maximum circuit speed of 170 Kph (92
Knots) for all operations during the approach.

The "commonly used speeds" you have quoted as 130 Kts. - Gear and 108 Kts. -
Flap were compliments of Yakkity Yaks Ltd. from many years ago and were
stolen directly from the NA T6 military manual without, to the best of my
knowledge, any research re. gears doors and flap structure, etc.
It is interesting to note that for civil certification of the T6 the flap
limit is reduced to 97 Kts. (Ref: TCDS A2-575).

When I make cockpit placards for CJ owners I recommend 110 and 90 Kts.
respectively after a detailed structural comparison to the T6, T34 and other
similar aircraft.

As to stall speeds I seem to recall 105 Kph (58 Kts.) from the manual which
is about right for the clean stall at gross weight.

Hi;

I guess it's a good thing they came up with velocity table even if about 40
years late.

There are some interesting numbers there, particularly the gear and flap
limits. They show 170 Kph (gear) and 160 Kph (flap), not much different
than the original circuit limit of 170 Kph for everything.
If you would take another look at the new manual you may notice something
odd. (Kts. = Kph X 0.54, MPH = Kph X 0.642).

The VNE given is also interesting though for a different reason. It is
given as 350 Kph. which is the correct number as shown in the Technical
Specification Manual for
the CJ6. Strangely enough that was increased to 370 Kph for the CJ6A
(Ref. TSM pg. 191).
Perhaps they are correcting an error here as the airframe structure is
virtually identical and, IMHO, increasing engine power alone does not
justify an increase in VNE. Possibly just the opposite!

Cheers;
Walt

I should learn to proof read before sending rather than after! MPH = Kph
X 0.624 (not 0.642)

With the problem identified I was hoping that there would be someone with some great words of wisdom to help clarify this. According to, at least this manual, many are referencing wrong speeds with potential structural issues down the road. Perhaps? or maybe the speeds that are commonly quoted have been analyzed and the published CJ book values don't hold any longer? Anyone wish to weigh in here and add some clarity?
