				We have probably encountered this problem some 30 times over the years, and although sometimes there are other magneto faults, it is absolutely characteristic of a coil failing that the engine is fine when cold and during climb out, and then starts missing between 20 and 30 minutes of flight, at which stage the engine has warmed up and the heat has soaked through to the magneto. Initially it begins with a short "stumble", but will get worse and worse over a few hours until the engine can stop for several seconds which does get your attention. Also, as people have noted, the engine does not run normally on the other magneto.
  
 The new coil is the only solution!

				I had this very thing whilst delivering a Yak-52 in the UK. Needless to say, a swift 180 followed with a return to the engineers. I was about to start the drills when it recovered so I left the levers alone and did a forced landing pattern back onto the field. It went a second time on the way back.

				I had the same problem with the M-14p in my CJ.  Maybe a  precautionary landing in Americas, GA. on my way to OSH, a good number of years  ago.  Up to that point I had been chasing ignition problems, mags, coils,  plugs, timing etc etc.  A crop duster's mechanic pen pointed the problem  also instantly.  Ignition harness brake down.  I had Dennis ship me an  auto conversion over night.  I spent that afternoon removing the old  harness (4 hours).  When the new one from Dennis arrived, It took me 4  hours to put it on, and I continued on to OSH that afternoon.  I've had  very few problems since - NONE involving the harness.
