Well, there are dramatically more in the West than I had thought! So these are aircraft that have had registrations in the individual countries. It is not saying that they are all airworthy in any way. And I suppose that a couple of aircraft might be included more than once.

It seemed the total production of CJ-6 was in excess of 2400, and numbers per country seem to be as follows:

 Australia 138

 USA 635

 Canada 67

UK 20 (and I suspect that this covers most, if not all in Europe, since UK registration is probably the only way that most continental owners can register their aircraft!)

 New Zealand 12

 South Africa 4

France 3 (I suspect that these are in the very difficult to obtain category of "avions de collection" – i.e. collectors aircraft but it is not easy to get this registration)

So in total 879. And of course there are separate subtotals for those in various other military services.

44 on the Australian register; some not actively flown but I've probably come across 15–20 of them out and about over the last few years. Similar number of Yak-52s on the register but I don't see as many of those around.

				Hi Richard,

We were always under the impression that there were only five CJs in Europe, all on the UK reg. That’s not to say there aren’t any unregistered projects anywhere but I have no knowledge of any.

G-BXZB (BD’s big engine), painted as CT180, SLAF
 G-BVVG, painted as “68”, PLAAF
G-CGFS (was Bruno’s in France, now in Norway*)
 G-CGHB (Harv’s)
G-CJSA (mine), painted as CT130, SLAF.

Three are at White Waltham with Harv’s at Redhill.

*CGFS briefly went to the LN- reg before coming back to the G-reg.

				Chaps

I believe Jays figures are correct with only the 5 for Europe that we know about, unless there’s any data out there to suggest otherwise?

Within the military there’s also around 6 sitting outside at Kuçovë/Gjadër airfields in Albania with countless more perhaps stored in the abandoned underground facilities . Some have been cut up, photos can be found on airliners.net

				They definitely had some CJ's!

I went to Albania in 1991 (or 92) for the express purpose of buying their
surplus YAK 11's. This based on info exchanged in a 3 way, 2 language
phone call via their UN rep. in New York.
On arrival in Tirana I was advised they had moved one of the YAK's to a
small airfield in the city for my inspection. They picked me up (with a
small motorcade) in the morning. On arrival at the airfield they proudly
opened the hangar door to reveal a CJ6 YAK!

After the shock wore off I asked how much they wanted for the "YAK's". They
were prepared to give them away at $72,000 USD each which, at the time, was
likely more than they paid for them.

Turned out the 4 Yak 11's were destroyed years before when a hangar
collapsed on them. Looking at the hangar we were standing in at the time
 pretty much confirmed that story.

 C'est le vie!
