Okay my fellow mechanics, a (?) for you all. Forgive my ignorance but avionics is not my strong point.I'm having trouble w/ my CJ6 standard Housai magnetos... on run-up one day the mag drops were perfect, textbook... the next day until now mag #1 shows 300~400 drop & obviously rough running.
(Mag #2 still purrs perfectly, using mag switch on 1+2 the engine runs well.) Momentarily switching to 0 cuts engine, as it should. Wiring all appears intact.
Magnetos are freshly cleaned & in great condition upon cursory inspection; aggressive leaning doesn't help & all 18 sparkplugs recently pulled & cleaned.
All leads appear in good condition.
Aft row's 8 sp's good on tester, testing front row 8 this afternoon.
Thoughts, inputs, advice???
Mag #1 controls the AFT row of sparkplugs, or the FWD row?
Mag #1 is (looking forward from cockpit) the right-side mag, correct?
Thanks all...

Best to ring it out. I have seen these wires all sorts of ways, including front and back being opposite. Just need to put an ohm meter between the p-lead and ground.

You said you checked your wires. I had a similar issue years ago. I ohmed the wires and ask was well. I rechecked the wires again and found a ziptie missing allowing the #2 wire to come in contact with the exhaust. It burnt through and was grounding out on occasions. Repaired the wire, double zip tied it away from the exhaust and wa-la.

Infra-red temp.guns are extremely helpful here. Run it on the bad mag for a few minutes. Not long, just awhile. Kill the engine, find the cool cylinder.  The Nano 300 on a cell phone will see the cool cylinder as it is RUNNING!

Once you know for sure which cylinder you can drill down as the problem HAS to be right there. Spark plug, wire, mag cap, etc.
