For about $30, Harbor Freight has this twin engine FS,
radio control model. I crashed it 3 times first time out.
Some reinforcement and trim done since. Should be
pretty close now. No elevator control, direction is from
variable thrust.
Definitely a fair weather flier.
In the 60s I flew some control line and wanted one of the new RC
outfits. About $1000 at the time which is easily $5000 in today's
dollars. Glad I waited.
Instead bought an Aeronca (real airplane) for $1000 and flew it
home.

Harbor Freight has a salvage outlet where my brother bought me two of those
exact same models for $10. I have been flying RC airplanes for a while, but
was unable to fly those little varmits. Climb and dive is by how much
throttle you give it and when, and turn is by which engine you are giving
the throttle to. Anyone who can fly one of those can probably do anything
requiring great coordination and anticipation.
I have built about a half dozen or so RC airplanes this last year, make them
all out of blue fan-fold foam from Lowes, works out to about $4 an airplane,
not counting the hardware, which I recycle from one airplane to the next.
They work incredibly well, even if they are all mostly the same boring
color...
The little kid that lives behind me came over yesterday with one of those
"flying hydroplanes" that his uncle gave him for Christmas, wanted me to
help him fly it. After six atempts (it has elevators, but no rudders, you
turn it by giving power to the motor on one side, shutting down the one on
the other side, and it won't fly on just one motor) he was getting kind of
discouraged, so in a few minutes I will go downstairs and resusicate my
Firestar-looking RC trainer and teach him to fly with something that
actually flies well, and doesn't require super-reflexes to manage.
