				G'day Steve,

Try General Flying Services at Moorabbin Airport (35 min drive
south of the CBD). They have a whole bunch of new C172/182
 airplanes with glass.

Otherwise, go talk to some of the companies at Essendon
Airport (25 min north of CBD)...I am sure you will find what
 you are looking for.

 Cheers

 Russell

    Bill,

Yes, lot's of empty space over here. I suppose
that's the reason for the differences, amongst
others, for the night VFR rules. I've just got the
Aviation Theory Centre Air Law book to study up for
    the conversion.

I'm in Melbourne, but without a car. That's proving
to make things a bit difficult as far as travel to
the airports. I was hoping to avoid buying a car for
a while, since I live within walking distance of the
    CBD.

I've been `surfing' the web most of this morning,
and stumbled across the AOPA Australia site. My
American membership number seems to have gotten me
in (surprise), but the forums there aren't too
active. Aeroclub.com.au seems to have a lot of
information, but it's also a lot of work to extract
    it.

What I'm really looking for is some community
resources and, hopefully, a way to find some newer
model aircraft. Many of the flight schools in the
USA have upgraded the fleet, and you can almost
always find a G1000 panel to fly. They seem scarce
down here (I found only one - in NSW at the Cessna
Centre). I was hoping to get the IFR rating on the
G1000 (or a Chelton , but that might not be
realistic. I might have to look at buying into a
    partnership.

    Cheers,
        - Steve

that should be a good way to learn the system.

    Aviation Resources Down Under Hello
                         Everyone,
It's been a bit quiet, so I hope that you won't mind an
off topic question of those in Australia. I'm about to
start flying in Melbourne, and wonder if anyone can give
me: A good list of URLs for aviation resources in Victoria
Any local email lists A suggestion for an FBO to obtain a
command instrument rating with a glass cockpit. That last
bit seems like it may be a bit tough. I found plenty of
aircraft in the USA (new Cessna's mainly) in the training
fleet, but as far as I can tell, not too many down here.
Any pointers, hints or suggestions on getting started down
             here would be greatly appreciated.
                    Regards, - Steve
