Well guys/gals, yesterday I took delivery of a mostly-built RV-10 kit.
Pete Eslick of Leeward Air Ranch built a heck-of-lot of the fast-build
kit, and to my unpracticed eye ..... he did some excellent workmanship.
His mission changed and my family is the recipient of his hard work.
I'm kind of sad for him, but happy for us. It's the mixed emotions kind
of thing. Do not feel sorry for Pete, though, as he has some very fine
toys to play with ...... a single place Sukhoi, and an L-3 project. The
L-3 project is further along than the RV-10 though.

He was in the process of plumbing/wiring/installing stuff in the
fuselage of the -10 when his change of plans occurred.

There is one problem that I forsee ..... neither I nor my partners in
crime (Daughter/son-in-law) have the experience gained by doing all the
dimpling and riveting, reading the plans, and the experience using all
the tools. It's the price we must pay for jumping into the middle.
Actually, more into the end. I still remember the agonizingly long time
between 'looking like an airplane' and first flight of my Pitts, so I'm
not under any false hopes here. Once we get started, I expect progress
to go rapidly.

I have some projects of my own to complete prior to putting the kit in
my workshop, but am looking forward to the challenge.

By buying a kit mostly done how will this effect your ability to file for a repairman's licenses?

Congrats Linn, sounds like you got yourself another project.
Although it sounds like most of the metalwork is finished, you may want to think about ordering the practice kit from Van's. When I did mine it was a little control surface piece, but I think now it's a toolbox. Anyways, it would give you something to beat up while figuring out those metalwork skills.

Linn,

Congratulations. I know Pete and have seen his project. He did nice work.
He bought the quickbuild kit and put a lot of time into doing it right. He
just couldn't forsee getting it done in reasonable time. If there is a part
missing when you get that far, let me know. I borrowed a few little parts
from him, most of which I replaced, but there might be something missing in
there. He is actually the guy I borrowed a wheel pant from when we lost one
due to the axle extender bolt breaking (the part has been replaced, so you
should have it).

As far as experience, if you want more, just find someone close to you that
is building and join in.

As far as the repairman certificate, as I understand the law as it was
described in a forum at OSH, as long as you buy a partially completed kit
from someone who was doing it for education/recreation, you should be good
to go.

Enjoy.

Airfoil project. although the toolbox is also an option, the airfoil is what is used at the Sportair classes.

I understand they do have a tool box kit. Might as well get something I
can use.

I've had some practice with the gun and bucking bar when I was visiting
Las Vegas. We did some work on Bob's wing .... Rick wouldn't let me
touch his!!!
