I had another really fine experience with Grumman Guru Gary Vogt of Au
Country Aviation in Auburn, California, participating in the 2nd
owner-assisted annual we have done on my Tiger. I enjoyed it immensely and
learned a great deal from him; he loves to teach. Gary puts a great deal of
care in everything he does, including his detailed documentation. He uses a
16 page checklist which ensures that the Annual Inspection is thorough and
that there is follow-through each year on even the most minor squawk. He
even responded, in writing, to each item in my lengthy squawk list.
Gary is a Mechanical Engineer, formerly working on F-16s at Flight Test
Center at Edwards AFB. When I attended the AYA 2005 in Sacramento, I asked
everyone from the West Coast for recommendations for annuals. About 9 out of
10 recommended Gary. I feel most fortunate to have had the opportunity to
work with him again, although he also does traditional annuals and
maintenance without the owner present. Occasionally you meet someone who
consistently performs beyond your expectations. Gary is one of these people.
