Hi all,
First, let me thank you all for such worth while thoughts and ideas.
Well after sitting on the side lines most of the time, I guess I need to
put in my nickels worth.
We were flying an C-150 Texas Tail Dragger doing touch and goes. We
started a go around when both my instructor and I noted some thing was
not quite right, then we realized the throttle was all the way to the
panel and we were only getting 1900 rpm vs 2500 rpm.
Fortunately it was a cool winter day, the airport is at 5040 ft and we
were very close to gross weight. We made an abbreviated pattern and
landed on an intersecting runway with out problem.
The issue was the push-pull cable housing behind the panel had broken.
It was plastic and just gave up the ghost after so many years of use. My
point is that if there had been a spring on the throttle, we could have
still had throttle control. Instead all we had was throttle back, not
in. A combination of push-pull and a spring must be the best of possible
designs.
