I’m not sure if our European YAK drivers have been watching the brewhaha developing over proposed user fees in the US or not. I have seen an AOPA video on the additional charges made along the route of flight for an IFR sortie leaving UK and ending in GY. How do those fees affect the VFR pilot? It seems our senate has proposed a bill that leaves the current piston aircraft alone for now. Key word is for now. Anytime the government targets something for additional tax revenue to distribute to the socially deprived less fortunate unable to work because I don’t have to the governemt takes care of me societal segement, it is only a matter of time before the wolf comes to the door again. So saying all that I would like to learn more of how your system works and what you do to minimise the impact of the govermental fingers pilfering your hard earned wallet.

I have also seen a news report that "user fees" may include up to 50 cents a gallon tax to GA , but not the airlines. More than a few things about this whole subject boils my blood:

- The airline lobby goes out of their way to stick it to GA, and our elected officials of both parties buy this garbage.
- I thought this White House was fiscally conservative: that being a deep conviction against new taxes.
- Why can't the APOA and EAA get together on this and present a united front?
- Has anyone (agency) documented that ther even is a problem with FAA funding?

Inquiring Minds and Thin Wallets want to know...

All RPA members,

The FAA funding bill that the White House has endorsed will mean very bad news for GA. NBAA, AOPA, GAMA and EAA all are united against users fees. Our job is to contact our Senators and Congressmen to express opposition and urge them to defeat this re authorization bill. See any of the above groups' website for more info and help in presenting your arguments and points. If you want your children and grandchildren to enjoy the skies like we do I urge you all to GET INVOLVED!

Craig,
To answer your question - - Has anyone (agency) documented that ther even is a problem with FAA funding?
Yes, the General Accounting Office has made it quite clear the FAA financial management is one of the worst managed, if not THE worst managed in the government. It seems like our elected officials have completely ignored that fact.

There is a rumor that Blakely has failed the PPL written four times. Not too long ago, that had an internal audit of their flight ops and found tons of violations! Typical government operation.

I think you are wrong. The FAA earmarked funds were poorly managed by the FAA as well as Congress reached into it 10 years ago. Who’s administration was that under?
The Airlines have more money to pass to their lobbiest so we the smaller orgainization get the short stick! That being all we have is the AOPA and EAA talking for us. If Bill Moyer at AOPA is correct, this can be done without the increase. It just means some of the Great Social Experiment’s social give away programs have to be funded from elsewhere. I’m for if you get government check and you are under the retirement age (read “disabled”), then you have to submit to urine drug test randomly.
Nuff politics,
Support the AOPA and EAA in this endeavor along with let your congressmen know what you think of USER FEES! If they hear from enough of us they may actually be convinced that a single vote can count.

Some people just can't admit that Bush and his buddies are sticking it to us....have been the whole time.
No more comments from me on this subject.
