Hi guys,

Need I confirm that both Dennis and Doc are correct again in saying that a weak spring on the snot valve is not the prime suspect in a persistent air pressure problem? This happened to me last Fall when I couldn't get the gear up after takeoff. When I got "Chang" back to the hanger for a post flight inspection, I noticed that the spring was weak and the snot valve appeared to be rotated to the open position. I also noticed a faint hissing sound on the firewall. After applying soapy water, I traced the bubbles to a leaky t-fitting valve. The male fitting was old and pitted, and the female wasn't faring much better. ( Getting old stinks, doesn't it?) After removing it and opening it up, I found an unusual rust colored pellet the size of a BB. (Talk about a Sherlock Holmes Whodunnitt). . . This led to worrying and the discovery of rust in my beautiful new stainless steel water separator. Which led to the discovery of rust in my main air tank. Needless to say, I have a brand new air tank from Doug Sapp, I blew out all of the air lines, replaced the valves, and oh, does anyone know where I can get a new spring for the snot valve?

Val,
You can do your spring shopping on-line at McMaster-Carr; http://www.mcmaster.com/. Type in the search block, "stainless steel spring" and you'll find all kinds of SS springs.

OR, you can go to your local "Aircraft Components Enterprise" (AKA ACE) hardware store, and find a matching stainless steel spring from their selection box.
