I ran into a problem fitting the front wing struts and found that others have had the same problem when I searched the archives, but I didn't find much in the way of solutions. The angle of the welded U plate is off by about 6 or 8 degrees from the orientation of the wing pick-up and the gear strut for a proper fit. The plans show the U fittings as parallel to each other, which mine are (more or less), but I notice that some have said the Czech Aircraft front strut has the U welded 6 degrees from one another which seems about right.
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

				John,
I did just that and as you say -- "They were very helpful" as they have been with every issue I've had. Rodger was aware of the problem with the one piece strut that I have and said he would send me the part necessary to convert to the two piece strut which will solve the problem.

I have one piece struts, and interestingly, from the factory, one fit perfectly, and the other needed a four degree twist. I jigged it and carefully heated and twisted the 4130 tube about a foot from the end and it worked out well.
I actually have one of the newer two-piece struts for the 701, as received from Zenith (still wrapped), if anyone is interested.

				Bill:
I would strongly suggest that you use the new strut from the factory. They will no doubt have a fit at the thought that you heated the tube and gave a twist!

I was wondering about weakening the tubing as well. Not so much from the heat, but if in the process the strut was no longer straight it would not be as strong in compression (-Gs). Several builders wrote me off list that they had solved the alignment issue by heating and twisting and I haven't heard of any failures.

Was it a pipe, what goes inside to original strut?
If so, what are the dimensions and exact position
  on original strut?

I didn't weld those struts yet, but I'm in the
position, where I have to do it sooner or later.

And speaking of 701 struts. Has anyone had trouble with the angle of the strut pick up on 7F-17 ?
What I mean is, when you put the strut onto 7F-17, the other end of the strut does not come close to the upper strut fittings 7V2-5 and 7V4-4 ?
