The future N740VP MKIIIXTRA had her maiden test flight on 9/9/07 at 6:45 EST. After 14 yrs. of owning but only 2 of building. 591 lbs.empty, no fuel, engine wet.
Ellery stretched my boat trailer in 2 directions, built wing supports and balanced the carbs.
He the took it for a short test flight.
Need a little rudder trim (New that)
Need to balance cheap ass Carlisle tires.
Change plugs. Replacing with NGK DCPR7E (what was in it when it came back from Lockwood. Does that sound like the right plug # for those of you with a 912UL?
Change Warp pitch back to about 11.25 degrees.
Stabilizers need to be raised 1.5" to 2".
Ellery already made me Brackets to do so.
Pay no att. to the plans!
Not a bad report for a carpenter by trade and no aircraft knowledge, (patting self on back).
All seems good, but a little anticlimatic since I can't fly yet.
I may get a legal ride in a few days soon as the wrinkles are ironed out.

Vic
Congratulations.
Can I assume you don't have you pilots license yet? As for legal it seem like the regs. say no passenger during the 40hr test period. Sorry. Get signed off for solo then give it a go. Please get training is a LSA airplane before flying your newborn. If you get training in a GA airplane use lots of power on landing till you get used to the lack of inertia. Also don't do crow hops.
I would recommend you hit the brakes after takeoff or get expensive aircraft tires. I have the same tires and yes they vibrate a bit in the air. I don't like to add any weight not necessary.

I do have a photo or 2 but someone with a Mac gave me a bug and Photoshop doesn't open to let me downsize the Pic. Later maybe. I also have video of the first flight, in my mind that is. I forgot to push the big orange record button.
And some one wants to know if I have a license, pretty scarry thought eh!

Thanks Richard (and everyone else)
Your right about hitting the brakes after takeoff, thats what Ellery also sugested.
It's future N740VP, currently E002VP.
I don't need no steeeenking license to ride (train) with my UL instructor
My reg. is in but I have not recieved it yet.
I definately wont be a flyin without some trainin. I just wanted some time to work out the bugs before the airworthines inspection. The regs do say to have a complete and ready to fly craft.
