Just after suggestions on where people are mounting their gascolators in the
trigear version, I was thinking about the back of the
baggage bay bulkhead, as that should be below the tank bottoms and idealy
the lowest point, but it looks to me like
the flap drive will prevent this location. My other thought was inside the
tunnel under the throttle etc, this would require getting
right under the A/C to check drains etc. I am ready to bond cockpit module
in, but want to do as much of this "hidden" stuff as i can
before I do bond it in. I have seen a Mono with a small side door for this,
but have doubts about the height relative to the tank
in the tri

regards

I mounted my mini gascolator on the starboard wall in the open space next to the nosegear suspension.
It is mounted low for easy access and cooling. Fuel pump is mounted above that on the same wall.

Hi! Karl
May I suggest that being next to nose gear suspension it will likely be quite a hot place with all the heated air departing the cowling there.
Mine are mounted on the intermediate removable bulkhead which is much further aft and indeed I have another bulkhead forward just behind the nose wheel suspension springs which make them still more protected from heat.
In fact G-PTAG was built as a convertible so having cut out the Mono wheel belly I now use it as a belly plate and all the pumps and non return valves are mounted on it with the aft 1/3rd hinged to allow it to open with only 4 screws. At the aft end of this belly plate there is a small door with the clip latch above which there is the water check valves in the bottom of the gascolators.
Never had vapour problems even with the Jabiru 6 and it was all air cooled.
Regards
Bob Harrison G-PTAG

Thanks all especially Mike, Ivor and Gerry for the great pics, I have
opted for a combo of most of yours. Gascolators (two, main and reserve)
about 400mm from the firewall in the tunnel, back to the fuel selector, then through the secondary pump and through to the engine, with the
removable outer panel with a door in it for quick access to the drains, I
"borrowed" Jeff Roberts (thanks Jeff for the pics) mod for the console so
it all looks as though it will work nicely, without the need to do tight 90 degree bends etc Smile

Craig, Mine (in a mono, but I think it would be just as satisfactory in a
trigear) is attached to the medial R plywood support of the baggage bay. It
has a drain tap at its bottom which is easily accessed through a small flap
on the fuselage bottom, for day to day checking for water. My fuel pumps and
a fuel pressure sensor are mounted on the adjacent outer plywood support
which is convenient. Access for maintenance or taking out the filter screen
for cleaning is through the starboard baggage bay access flap. The system
has worked well for me over 5 1/2 yrs and I would choose it if building
again. As a point of general principle I feel it is sound practice to have
as little as possible of the fuel system located firewell forward
