.hmmessage P{margin:0px;padding:0px}body.hmmessage{FONT-SIZE: 10pt;FONT-FAMILY:Tahoma}The Apollo GX series radios also have a battery that the manual says requires FACTORY replacement. THEY have been user serviced. They are in a battery carrier and will pop out with a screwdriver. I have a coworker that is a T-18 builder / flyer that did his own and set me photos.

Hi Gary,
I can confirm that your KLX-135 has aninternal lithium back-up battery. They usually are an off the shelfitem. I’d be tempted to pull the cover and at least take a look atit. If it’s soldered to the board you will need a replacement with “tabs”or “leads”. (Flat or round) Most are available that wayif you specify it. A quick search on the net should pull up a source fora replacement.
Good luck. Nine years was prettygood.

Just today I realized that theBendix/King KLX-135A has an internal battery with what is claimed tobe a 3 to 5 year life. Mine just went TU after 9 years. It'ssupposed to give to a warning on the screen that data will be lost unlessreplaced within a week. Since I haven't flown for a few weeks, I guessthe warning went unheeded.
At least I think that's what's going onhere. My GPS was non-op as it lost its initial position and the radiofreqs default to 120.00 on power up. I wasn't going to fiddle with it inthe air so I just ignored it but it never did capture.
This prompts a few questions. Cananyone confirm my suspicions with the available evidence? Hasanyone personally replaced this battery or is it absolutely necessary thatit to be done by an avionics shop? I'm assuming that Bendix/King(Honeywell) won't sell me a replacement directly, so it's probably thelatter. If anyone has had this done yet can you tell me what the $$damage was?
I will probably just take it to LAC atthe San Jose Jet Centeron Tuesday.
