What airplane are you putting it on? I have an Iris (Yak-50) and have yet to figure out how to control it. Mine is fixed for now but I have NEVER had an issue with temps...even in the summer.
I do not have the original controls for the louvers so I am starting over...

I had one on my CJ when I first put the M-14p on. I didn't like it. First even when closed my engine was to cool. It raddled, looked awful because the paint was always scratched and was not "typical" of the CJ's looks. It seemed to "belong" to the Sukoys and such. Not the Yaks or CJs
I got rid of it after a couple years.
