I've heard some of the horror stories of the dreaded 7-engine approach.
Our men and women in uniform truly are the bravest!

Never heard of Bingo Fuel. To avoid reminding everyone that I am an asshole,
I looked it up before asking and found this interesting article.

We were down to five engines on the B-47 one night. Scared me to death and I am darn near fearless. You just have to remember it is rudder, rudder, rudder.

Never heard of Bingo Fuel.
Nico;
Bingo fuel just gets you to the head of the pack, kind of like declaring an
emergency. I did have a medical emergency once and was quite impressed at
the handling. My instructions were: "Maintain 10K, speed at your
discretion, call descent for landing" they gave me the T/O runway for
landing, just stopped departures until I was clear of the runway. Really
worked out great, and I hope the guy with the heart attack appreciated it.
Many years ago, a friend flying an RB-66 was running on fumes and cut Air
Force One out of the pattern with LBJ on board. ( single runway, think it
was Lajes or Bermuda) Needless to say, they were met on the ground and the
tanks manually 'stuck' to check the fuel. Was less fuel on board than even
they thought they had, but Mr. Johnson was quite upset he had to go around.
Isn't ego wonderful? I've along with several other carriers have had to
hold until Air Force One finished taxiing and was parked, they completely
shut down the airport, (makes me glad they normally use military airports)
all in the name of security and I don't think they have ever had a security
breech from an American carrier, at least not until 9-11 if you count that
as a security breech.

In our search and rescue operations we use the term "Bingo fuel" to define
the TIME we have to leave the furthest point of the search area that we had
been assign to in order to be on the ground with the appropriate fuel
reserves.

When I was based out of DC- we interacted with them quite a bit in the same
airspace. The pilots are just as good a bunch as the rest of us once in the
air. It's the admin Air Force types and the security admins you gotta watch
out for. They are so worried about their jobs they don't bother to think in
terms of real world consequences....
Take for example the ADIZ. Now *there* is a process that was invented by
chair warmers and bears no resemblance to reality.

Good Morning All,
Think of Bingo fuel this way. You are down at the lodge playing Bingo. What happens when somebody calls Bingo?
Everyone else pushes back and waits to see what happens. It is not an emergency, but special consideration is given to he/she who calls Bingo!
Same deal!

Rob;
I totally agree, most pilots are pretty nice guys, often better when we take
them out of their uniforms and we can all be just "Pilots", doing what we
love to do.
The ADIZ is the main reason I don't fly my Commander up to see 'Honey' in
the Mt. Vernon area, just too much of a hassel in the DC area. And for what
purpose? The media makes such a big deal out of it when someone violates
the restricted area, but never a word is heard when it is the use of the
pilot's 'emergency authority' such as weather and allows the pilot to
violate any rules, but does require 3 letters within 72 hours. Course you
may get shot at by some over jealous police or security force. Does make
you wonder what ever happened to common sense. But that also is a two way
street, can't imagine flying in the area without either radio contact or at
least maintenaining a radio listening guard,.

Don-
You ever try going into KRMN? It sits a few miles outside the ADIZ- has a
full ILS to RW33 and is staffed by the greatest line crew on the planet.
If/When we move back to the DC area that is where we'll be home-basing the
birds...

Sure, Roland. Why don't you send me the graphics you want on them and I will quote you a price, if that's OK with you. The graphics matter because it involves the number of colors, which again affects the process.
Thanks

Don,
No, not me, I retired at 60, a couple of years ago, the idea of continuing on domestic (we have never has an age 60 rule) didn't turn me on.
Sink blockages have always been a problem with our -744s, this time all the holes in James Reasons's Swiss cheese lined up. At least 5 other -744 have also been found to have cracked drip trays.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton
