HI KIDS.
I had nice afternoon. Flew triple 2 to Hillsboro (HIO) to attend a memorial for Swede Ralston. Swede was the originator of Aero Air, one of the oldest and best Twin Commander service centers. He had a wonderful and colorful career including a stint crop dusting in a Grumman TBM Avenger. He was also a talented aerobatic pilot best know for flying an AT-6 through the blimp hangar at Tillimook Oregon. I had several great opportunities to spend time with Swede one on one over the years and I can attest to his wonderful, honest spirit. During our very first (since I have been presiding) Flight group flyin, at Aero air, a great video was shown of Swede landing a 500S on a tiny, 700 foot strip on a sheer bluff in Idaho's "Hells Canyon". A potential buyer told Swede that if he could land (and take off again) he would buy a brand new Shrike. Well, Swede did it and true to his word the buyer wrote the check. It is an amazing vi deo. This last summer, Sue and I took a jet boat ride through Hells Canyon and our guide stopped the boat below a bluff. "see that goat trail up there" he said. "Believe it or not that is an airstrip!!" "It is called Cash Creek". "Now, for the rest of the story" said our guide. "I guy actually flew in there with a twin motor job!!" That was of course Swede Ralston. Later, Swede took a Tubo Commander in there!!! Swede will truly be missed. I had a great, short flight. Tripe 2 is running great and it really felt good to fly her again. jb More new features than ever. Check out the new AOL Mail!
