I don't know why anyone would buy a Sport Cruiser over
an Arion Lightning. They: 1.) cost a lot more 2.) are
not as clean and aerodynamic as the Lightning 3.) are
pitifully slow compared to the Lightning 4.) burn more
fuel 5.) SC is just plain ugly compared to the
Lightning 6.) are not anywhere near as agile and fun
to fly as the Lightning- I have not flown the SC (have
flown the Lightning) but can tell by looking at the
design.

THE ONLY BENEFIT of the SC is that you can buy it
factory made and don't have to deal with any build
process. While it may provide instant gratification,
something really good and a whole lot better is worth
waiting a minute for (a short minute because of the
insanely quick build time of the Lightning).

More former fighter pilots own and fly the Lightning
than the SC. The SC is owned more by newbie and
non-thrill seeking inexperienced pilots, the kind of
people who drive the interstate in the right lane with
their blinker on for an hour. The thing is that the
Lightning is actually just as safe if not a safer
plane than the SC. There really is no comparison
between the two. The Lightning is in a class by
itself.
Hope this thread can make its way to the SC groups
out there so they know what's up.

Thought you all might enjoy this report from Sebring

Sportcruiser Yahoo list:

"Once you see a White Lightning in person...and
166JG awaits here in
all its glory...if you are objective you will know
that the SC is no
longer the best looking LSA on the market. JG is so
wide and sleek
with a tapered Lancair-like tail it screams speed
and indeed will
likely produce 150 knots with only a prop change in
nonLSA livery.
The baggage area appears twice as large and three
times as usable as
SC (OK - no wing lockers). The SC appearance really
suffers from the
necessity of having a high cowl to accomodate the
gearbox. Not as
much as the brand new Gobosh (708GB, 8548U,
czech/polish same price
for composite or metal low wing with big swept up
tips) or Tecnam but
that low flat 3300 is responsible for half the
"looks" triumph for
the Lightning. Just comparing the nosewheel fairing
design,
aerodynamics, and apparent strength between SC and
this gave me a sad
sick feeling. I guess SC is still the better value
but this has
suddenly become a very tough call."

Yes, but we need to be "courteous" in our comparisons. While I agree with
many of the things that Charles says, (see my comparison at
http://www.jimslightning.com/html/why_lightning_.html ) which compares the
Sonex, Lightning, SportCruiser and Dynamic WT-9); we also need to be
understanding of the fact that we, as Lightning owners are very passionate
about our airplane as are the owners of the others.

The aircraft that you are flying and are happy with is the best selection
you can have. Each of us have a different mission, and that's why there are
different aircraft to select from.

Jim!
