<<There are 4 flights on the Corvair powered 701 since its first flight on
Feb. 2nd.>> See balance of comments below and at http://flywithgus.com/page4.html

Congratulations Gus!

I also want to take the opportunity to mention here that Gus provided
extremely helpful support to me by traveling down to Palm Beach Gardens and
helping me install the engine, cowling, electrical, fit the wings and cut
the canopy for my 601XL. If it weren't for his expert advise and skills, I would have
never been able to complete this project before the deadline of January 31,
2008 (at that time the imposed deadline was for E-LSA type aircraft--that
requirement has now been extended 2 years if you were able to get it
registered before the Jan 31 deadline). He would continue working even when
I was completely exhausted and just sat staring at what he was doing!

In addition, I am also planning on having Gus do the First Flight because of
his depth of knowledge of the 601XL and the Corvair engine (an engine that
was practically hand built by both William Wynne and Kevin Fahy -- thank you
gentlemen for a really beautiful engine!).

I feel extremely confident in both the aircraft and the engine because of
the type of people that have been instrumental in helping me get it
completed. I'm looking forward to the first flight around the 15th of this
month.

Scott Thatcher, Palm Beach Gardens, FL
601XL with Corvair, Registered as E-LSA
N601EL

Gus, That's really "dropping in" Smile That looks like my first landing when I pulled power instead of adding power because I wasn't used to the left hand throttle. I am sure you know by now to keep in some power right to the end or she will drop in. Good luck with the flight testing.

Hi Gus,
I am interested in the weights/balances of things with the Corvair engine. Do you have those numbers anywhere?
