Hello all Lightning owners, builders, flyers, and enthusiast,
Attached is the first Lightning newsletter designed and written just for you. Remember the newsletter name is yet to be chosen, so please keep sending your suggestions. I am also requesting you send me your feedback on the newsletter, your inputs for future editions (including photos), and any other suggestions you may have to make it better. Everyone needs to get involved to make it worthwhile and for it to have up to date information. So download the file and start reading. Then let me know what you think and pass on some suggestions for future issues. By the way, the newsletter will also be available on the Lightning web site (www.arionaircraft.com) so that potential customers not on this list will have access to it. Also, having all the past issues posted there will allow it to be used for archive purposes.

Good job on the newsletter Buz! Any word on when the kitplanes magazine article will be published? Also, haven't seen it published anywhere, but what is the change in range with the new 30 gallon tanks? When I was around SYI we spoke several times about a new hatch design that would allow for locking and also to get into the plane from the outside. At the time it was just a hangar dream, but Nick had some ideas. Looks like it finally made it into production and that is a great edition. I personally think that the new wingtip extensions, besides providing a higher glide ratio, will be a great sale due to a slightly more stable cross country platform, but mainly due to the increased good looks in an already sexy looking aircraft. One change that I did not know of that will really be beneficial to newer pilots is the Lightning's new trim system. Many of the trim systems were very sensitive. It was easy enough to use, but this new system will allow for fine tuning the system.  Again, the ability to tune the amount of pitch control will be a welcome edition as it will allow for a "sportier feel" or a more "Conventional feel". I will get some pics for your newsletter as I make my way back up before summer. Keep up the good work Buz, Brian W.

Hi Brian,
No. Since the new demo flight for him will not happen until at SNF, it will certainly not be until some time this summer. I don't know how much lead time aviation magazines need, but we may know more when we see him at Lakeland.
As to the change in range with the new 30 gallon tanks, the answer to that will have to come after performance testing on the new demo. Maybe someone already flying Lightning with the larger tanks has finished their 40 hour phase 1 and can jump in here with some valid data. Another question will be the range with the big tanks AND the new tip extensions when they are up and flying. So lots of test data points to be obtained. I would think that the large tanks and tip extensions will result in high altitude cruise performance very similar to 31BZ.

I would imagine that if so desired, existing Lightning owners could cut their wing tips off and add the new ones?

I for one might be interested pending good performance gains.

(might be a nice winter project...)

Wayne, I have no idea why you did not have an attachment. I think everyone else got it fine. Perhaps your e-mail provider thought it was too big a file or something. Thanks for the scientific explanation. I was taking my data from Mork (who was from Ork). You may recall he was an alien on TV a few years back (Mork and Mindy). He measured space travel in Bleams. I simply took a SWAG at it from there.

Hey Doug,
Considering Buz's recent reference to Mr. Ed (darn he beat me to it!), I'm pretty sure that tv is where he learned what a Bleam is too! *L* Brian W.
